🏠 Clooney Spancilhill Maghera Community Development Group partnered with EcoVision for the retrofitting of a number of houses in the community this year. They were a huge support and the feedback has been excellent 🏠

All funds raised are going to the Plant the Planet Games 2024 initiative in association with Self Help Africa where our local legend Ciara Grogan and 50 other GAA players across Ireland will be travelling to Kenya in November 2024 to plant trees and help local communities.

⚠️ Fantastic event happening in Quin this weekend for National Heritage Week ⚠️

⏰ 2:30pm – 4pm
🗓 Sunday, 18th August 2024

The Quin Heritage Group are hosting a visit to one of the many stone forts in the Quin area on Sunday August 18th as part of Heritage Week.

The Quin area is especially rich in early habitations – earthen forts, stone forts, ‘peel towers’ and ‘Big Houses’). John Power has kindly offered an opportunity to see his fort at Creevagh Beg which is substantially intact.

📍Directions: Take a right from Quin at Clooney GAA field crossroads, through the next cross and keep an eye out for the stone fort on the right after the bungalow, Eircode V95 V529.

The event combines a short chat on the forts and the opportunity for a closer look at the local construction.

We hope to have a chance to share stories, history and folklore about these ancient residences.

Parking is limited in the area. We would ask people to double up when travelling by car and ensure the local road is not affected.

This is a free event and open to everyone. Bígí linn agus fáilte.

Great event happening in Tulla this weekend if you are on the lookout for some Aran Knits.

It is ran by a fascinating group who raise funds for non-profits.

🌍 The Clooney Spancilhill, Maghera Community De

🌍 The Clooney Spancilhill, Maghera Community Development Group (CDG) have successfully applied for funding under the Climate Action Grant Fund initiative 🌍

The funding approved for our CDG was just under €14k in July 2024, and we have 18 months to action the initiatives and draw down this funding.

We applied for funding under the ‘Local Climate and Environmental Action’ theme to cover:

♻️ Water Harvesting to use rainwater rather than water from public scheme.
♻️ Bike Shelter to encourage cycling and use of public transport.
♻️ Battery-operated strimmer to avoid using fossil fuels.
♻️ Re-wilding of Community Space with native trees and plants beside Clooney Church

We are confident that we can do our part to help build a low carbon community in a considered and structured way for our families 🌍

This is initiative is supported by the government via the county councils which you can read more about in the link in the comments.

In addition, we have also been awarded a grant under the Community Support Scheme to carry out a feasibility study to look at extending Walks/Trails in the Clooney/Spancilhill area.

There are lots of great things happening in our community - look out for more to come on this shortly!!
